From 90s to Now: Vintage Jewellery Trends For Men

The ’90s: Oasis dominated the UK music scene, Friends aired for the first time and something called the internet came into peoples’ lives – what a time to be alive!

As they say, what goes around comes around, and while we might still be waiting for that longed-for Oasis reunion, something that is making an unapologetic comeback is the fashion trends of the ‘90s. From baggy jeans to bucket hats, and from double denim to dungarees, men especially can’t get enough of ‘90s fashion at the moment.

If you’re looking to stand out, or you just want to put those finishing touches on your ‘90s-inspired fit, you may want to consider how you can put a modern twist on men’s jewellery trends of the ‘90s. Here are four ways men are bringing back ‘90s jewellery.

Rings

The motto for rings in the ‘90s must’ve been ‘the more the merrier’. Oversized, chunky, colourful, anything went when it came to adding bling to your fingers during the last decade of the 20th century.

While oversized and chunky rings are firmly back in fashion, it’s fair to say men have learnt from their mistakes when it comes to styling them in 2024, gone are the days of simply adding maximum metal to your hands and fingers.

Nowadays, we’re seeing smarter choices. Dark, chunky rings are being paired with leather jackets and military boots for a rugged, masculine look. Alternatively, you could add some chunky silver to your fingers if you’re looking to exemplify your simpler outfits.

Bracelets

‘90s bracelet trends followed a similar pattern to ‘90s rings; a stack of multiple bracelets was a common sight on men’s wrists. If you were a fan of that look, the good news is bracelet layering has made a return to the fashion world.

If you’re opting for a wrist stack in 2024, be sure not to combine too many bracelets of varying thicknesses. Remember, you want to be inspired by the ‘90s, not transported back to them!

Alternatively, you can go the opposite way if you prefer a more minimalist look. Tennis bracelets were popular in the ‘90s but they’re probably even more popular now. Pairing a thin silver or gold piece can be the perfect way to finish off a smart yet stylish outfit for an important occasion.

Dangly earrings

There’s no doubt that men’s earrings are timeless, but the way men style them is constantly changing. Currently, we’re seeing a return to earrings of the ‘90s but thankfully, men are bringing back the good and leaving behind the bad!

Today, most opt for a subtle addition, whether that be in one ear or both, and often look to combine it with religious or spiritual beliefs by choosing to have symbols such as crosses and crucifixes dangling from their ears.

Necklaces

Dog tags, pendants, statement necklaces – they’re all back. And while modern pieces may be a little more reserved than the bright gold bling synonymous with ‘90s hip-hop culture, it’s still just as fashionable.

In 2024, don’t treat your necklace like an afterthought, allow it to take centre stage by adding them to stripped-back, casual outfits like simple men’s twin sets. If you’re at a more formal event, personalised dog tags and pendants can be the perfect way to add a touch of personalisation and elegance to your look. This means they work great as a gift for a partner or as a memorial piece.
